16 and Pregnant Gives Behind-the-Scenes Look at the MTV Sensation

Show's producers and researchers to serve on plenary panel at national youth, health and new media conference

March 3, 2011, Oakland, CA: Curious if 16 and Pregnant glamorizes teen pregnancy, or if the girls on the shows are really Losers (with a capital "L")? Catch a glimpse of the "thinking behind" the current 16 and Pregnant MTV sensation on April 2nd in San Francisco.

ISIS, Inc., a national non-profit leader and innovator in youth, new media and sexual health, announced speakers for the plenary session at its annual Sex::Tech conference today. "Behind The Scenes: 16 And Pregnant," will be held from 8:30-10am PT at the Stanford Court Renaissance Hotel in San Francisco, CA.

Data shows that teen pregnancy rates have gone down in the U.S. since the first airing of the show. Deb Levine, Executive Director of ISIS, Inc. and panel host, says, "We can't deny the impact of 16 and Pregnant on our youth and families. Behind the Scenes will underscore the depth of the partnerships developed for the show, and the proven educational value of cutting edge multimedia programming for youth around sexual health."

The 16 and Pregnant team to be featured on April 2nd:

  • Morgan Freeman, Executive Producer of 16 and Pregnant and the Teen Mom series
  • Dia Sokol Savage, Executive Producer at MTV, overseeing the 16 and Pregnant and the Teen Mom series
  • Amy Kramer, Director of Entertainment Media and Audience Strategy, The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancies
  • Katy Suellentrop, Director, State Support and Lead Researcher, The National Campaign  to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancies

The panel will be moderated by Dr. Jeff Livingston, a board certified obstetrician and gynecologist at MacArthur OB/GYN in Irving, Texas, sponsored by Sage Health. Dr. Livingston serves as Chairman of the OB/GYN Department at Baylor Medical Center of Irving, Texas and is leading the practice’s efforts to use social media, Health 2.0, and community involvement to improve patient engagement for teen pregnancy.
